The Anti Aging Academy’s View on Anti Aging Medicine
Everyone is trying to sell anti aging supplements, nutrients, and other forms of anti aging products these days, claiming that they will slow down the aging process in general and make your skin look youthful and beautiful. However, do they really work? The American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine has some outlooks on this and their opinions seem to go far in the anti aging world.
So what is the anti aging academy’s stance on medicines?
Officially, they seem to believe that anti aging medicine is simply another form of preventive medication and that it might even be the next best thing as far as health care is concerned. One thing that the United States has had trouble with in the past is early detection and prevention when it comes to health care. So, by using anti aging medicine, instead of reversing effects, you are really working on prevention and early detection. And, in some cases of course, reversal of diseases that are due to aging.
So what does the anti aging academy think about age-related diseases?
The Anti aging academy believes that age-related diseases fall four categories: infectious disease, inherited genetic diseases, degenerative disease, and trauma. According to their website, infectious disease, trauma, and inherited genetic disease only account for 10% of the cost for treating all diseases in the United States. About 50% of the cost is spent toward degenerative diseases. That is one of the reasons why early detection and prevention is so important.
What does the anti aging academy propose we do about this?
Purportedly, if the aging process can be slowed down then 50% of all disease (apparently the ones caused by degeneration) can virtually be wiped out overnight. How? By impeding, reversing, or preventing the diseases that aging can cause to start with. Since a big proportion of the United States (read: the baby boomers) are now entering into senior citizenship, this is even more important as diseases caused by aging will be affecting a large number of the population.
Who does the anti aging academy say should be involved in this?
According to the anti aging academy, everyone should be involved in this. They think that it will take a multi-disciplinary approach across many fields. These fields include biology, biochemistry, physiology, molecular genetics, sports medicine, mind/body medicine, as well as other emerging medical technologies. This is fairly understandable because you really never know where the next great idea is going to come from. One field that is seemingly unrelated could stumble upon something that the other fields could use. Communication would need to be the key, here.
What kind of degenerative diseases is the anti aging academy talking about?
There is a host of anti aging diseases out there. These can include strokes, high blood pressure, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, adult-onset diabetes, autoimmune disease, most cancers, and glaucoma.
In short, it can be important to continue medical research to focus on anti aging measures, not necessarily for the cosmetics value, but for the sake of keeping people alive and functioning.
