Tips for Normal Skin

Tips for Normal Skin

Hi everyone, welcome back. We have another skincare routine for you, and this one is for all of you with normal skin. Yes, people with normal skin need a good skincare routine. Normal skin does not equal perfect skin, and you have two goals with your skin: you want to maintain, but you also want to protect.

So we’re going to show you a really simple morning skincare routine for normal skin.

The Misconception About Normal Skin

All right, so the big misconception about normal skin is that it is always perfect. But the truth is our skin is constantly changing. Sometimes, the issues that we’re dealing with are issues that we caused by overusing products, over-exfoliating, being a little too rough with our skin, or being out in the sun without protection. These are things that can cause our skin type to change.

But then some things can happen, like hormonal changes, life changes, and climate changes. Different things can cause our skin to change. So, when you have normal skin, you have two main goals.

One, you want to maintain your skin; you want it to stay normal so that you have the least amount of issues happening.

But at the same time, just like everybody else in a morning skincare routine, you want to protect your skin because, at the end of the day, we’re all aging.

We’re all potentially going out into the sun, experiencing UV damage, free radical damage, or any of the things that can eventually cause premature aging or worse, things like skin cancer. So you want to protect your skin. So maintaining and protecting your skin are your two main goals.

Cleansing for Normal Skin

All right, so one of the things that we’ve noticed is that people with normal skin are usually the most resistant when we say that we don’t suggest washing your face in the morning with a cleanser.

So we understand that you want to use a cleanser. Again, one of your main goals is to make sure that you’re not disrupting your skin, and cleansing could be one of those steps that actually disrupt your skin barrier because it can be too stripping, too drying, and too strong. There are just all these different factors that come into play.

We personally see a cleanser in the morning as an opportunity to either hydrate your skin or exfoliate your skin, and in this case, we think you should do both.

So one way to avoid stripping your skin when you cleanse in the morning is to use a cleanser that’s actually very nourishing for the skin. So we love to use some of these newer kinds of hybrid cleansers, and what we’re talking about the cleansers that are kind of like a hybrid of an oil with a typical gel cleanser, and there are a few out on the market now.

They hydrate your skin, they nourish your skin, and they just feel really good while they cleanse. It can be a little bit confusing because they are not your typical oil cleanser.

We’re not causing any issues with our skin after cleansing it—that’s really the thing to keep in mind.

Moisturizing Normal Skin

Next up, you just need a moisturizer. You really want to keep your skincare routine simple when you have normal skin. The more you add into your routine, the more chances are that you could disrupt your skin barrier.

So it’s just always something to keep in mind. When you have normal skin, we feel like one of the big issues is that you get a little bit more risky with the things that you’re going to try out because you know that your skin can usually handle it.

But that doesn’t mean that the time won’t come where you disrupt your skin barrier. So keep it really simple and just know you’re just trying to protect and maintain your skin, especially for your morning skincare routine. So you want to make sure you’re finding that right mid-weight moisturizer.

We just personally love peptides for their hydration, and they really just make your skin feel like it’s really plump. So it’s, you know, one of our favorite reasons why we love peptides and moisturizers specifically.

But we also have ethylated Vitamin C, meaning it’s a Vitamin C derivative that is also really great to protect your skin. It gives a little bit more brightening. We have panthenol, which is also great for strengthening your skin and again maintaining that skin barrier that you want to keep intact and nice and normal and balanced. So this is a great moisturizer for all skin types, but again, for normal skin, this is the perfect moisturizer for you.

So we are just going to let this kind of absorb into our skin for a second, and we’ll be right back with our sunscreen.

Applying Sunscreen

All right, and then the last step is probably one of the more important steps in the skincare routine and in every morning skincare routine, and that is a sunscreen. We’re going in with this one from Say. This is a tinted moisturizing lotion. It is SPF 30. We think SPF 30 is totally fine, especially if you’re going to be inside most of the day. This does have a tint to it, and a lot of people ask us, “Can a tinted sunscreen or a tinted moisturizer be all the sunscreen that you’re going to use?” In our opinion, it kind of depends.

If you’re going to use a tinted moisturizer or tinted sunscreen as your only form of sun protection for the day, then you want to make sure that you’re going to use it all over your face and on all exposed skin. And the reason why this one qualifies to us as our main sunscreen is because the tint is really, really sheer. So you can see it does have that color, like we said, but when we put it on, you’re gonna see how sheer it is. And that means it won’t make us look like a clown if we put it everywhere on all of our exposed skin, because that’s really the difference.

If we use a really thick tinted moisturizer or tinted sunscreen, then it’s just going to look like we’re a clown if we have it like from here all the way to here, and it’s really, really on thick, right? You don’t want to do that. So we’re going to put this on. It is a mineral sunscreen, and what we like about this is that it is all zinc oxide, so you get broad spectrum protection, which you are definitely looking for. But also, this specific formula is really hydrating for the skin. They have hydrating and moisturizing ingredients in here.

While we tend to find that a lot of mineral sunscreens are very drying on the skin or feel like too pasty, this one doesn’t because it has those nice hydrating ingredients in it. So we’re just going to make sure we get it everywhere we need, and you can see, putting it all over the place, it just looks like we have nice, glowy skin. It doesn’t look like we have a ton of makeup on. Look at that—so pretty and so glowy on the skin. It’s really a nice one.

And then no skincare routine is complete without a little bit of lip balm, so we’re going in with this one from Tatcha. It is their Kisu Lip Mask, and it’s really, really just nice and light.

Final Tips

So the skincare routine is complete. A really quick tip: if you feel like your sunscreen is too dewy-looking, you can always powder it down a little bit.

We actually always powder down our sunscreen at this point, even if we’re not going to wear any makeup, just because our eyes are really sensitive. So powdering even just like the eye area really helps so that it doesn’t eventually, you know, like get into our eye, because all sunscreen travels—like all sunscreen. So eventually you’ll start being like, “Why are our eyes a little bit stingy?” and stuff.

This one does a really good job of not traveling too much, but still, we’re gonna probably powder down in just a couple of areas, and then we’re done. That is it, especially for the morning time. If you have normal skin, you really just want to maintain and protect. Say it with us: maintain and protect. It’s very, very simple. You don’t want to make your skin feel like it’s out of whack and off balance. It’s already balanced, and you just want to keep it there. So keep that in mind. Keep it simple.

We know it probably is very tempting to go and try a bunch of different products, but you really don’t need to unless you start to deal with different types of skin issues. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask us in the comments below.
